California Treatment Programs is a family of treatment centers for women and men,
including Yellowstone, a non-profit (501-C3) in place for almost 14 years, and California Recovery.
California Treatment Programs provide a place to begin for the alcoholic and addict who is tired of chaotic life, dreams that have become nightmares, and failure in every attempt to succeed. For many, Yellowstone is the last house on the block. In spite of every failure here finally is a chance for success. Built on the concept of one alcoholic helping another, Yellowstone provides a complete treatment solution beginning with Detox, Residential Treatment, Outpatient, Anger Management, and long-term sober living with other addicts trying to find a successful new way to live drug free.
Yellowstone, California Treatment Programs women’s program, has helped over 5000 women find an open door to recovery. At first, women could only stay 10 days. but after so many relapsed, it was clear the program had to expand to at least 30 days. More women stayed sober longer as a result.
The relapse rate was still unacceptable, but at least 50% of the women were staying sober after 90 days. It was clear, though, that after 30 days, the women were sober and clean but did not necessarily know how to stay sober. The program was extended to 90 days and the number of female residents grew from 15 to 40. Now after an intensive daily drug treatment program, women were staying sober in greater numbers and many were celebrating one year birthdays. The next year 17 women celebrated sober birthdays in one month. Clearly, 90 days Of intensive drug treatment was the answer.
California Treatment Program’s Men’s Program began in 2000 with a large house in Santa Ana filled with men who were given early release from jail or prison. They began to stay sober, but only sober living was available. As the number of men in the program grew from 15 to 30, another house was needed, and a drug treatment program (including the drug of alcohol) began for them as well.
The Men’s Program has grown from 15 to 45 and housing is provided In Costa Mesa and Newport Beach. Men come to us from further and further distances, even New York, Hawaii and Alaska. Addiction is the same problem for all of them. Some come from families able to spend large sums of money for treatment. Others have very little but they understand the value of treatment now vs. expensive consequences later. California Recovery offers payment plans for even the most difficult financial problems. They offer matching funds as well. After 30 days, some residents earn scholarships for the rest of their program.

The first founders had to go to hospitals to find drunks to help. Today they are much more visible. Our programs are family driven. All of the staff are graduates of the program, and many of the residents who graduate also refer their friends and other family members. California Treatment Programs has a large alumni group, another extension of the family, and they schedule events all year long, including conventions and retreats. Sundays are family days, and while residents attend their regular afternoon meeting, family members have their own group at a nearby church. They learn this is a family disease and there is help for the whole family in recovery.
The results of the California Treatment Programs are visible everywhere. More and more sober women and men are attending outside meetings. Increasing numbers of our graduates are visible working in nearby stores and supermarkets. The “get well” job is a sign of recovery, the willingness to work anywhere as a sign of good sobriety, a willingness to take direction, make a work commitment and keep it.

A community not afflicted by all night fights and “mornings after” is a good place to live. As more sober people move in, the entire Neighborhood benefits.
